The House of the Arcane Contraption has been the hidden home and well-established school of the techno mage. Ran by the Cabal of the 5.3, the House is divided into five schools of engineering: firearms and siege weapons, small devices, steam armor, vehicles, and explosives.
To become a student in the House of the Arcane Contraption, the potential student appeals to a house they wish to study under. A teacher, student or someone else in the school must sponsor the potential student’s application. A review of the applicant’s abilities is done, which usually reflects the student’s feat chains, (for example, which Technological Knack feats they pick).
To prove their worth, every student must create his or her own special wrench (known to most outside the school as Shoni’s Disarming Tool). Some houses require it to be enchanted. If the potential student does not have the Craft Magical Arms and Armor feat, he can prepare the tool for enchantment and have a mentor finish the magical process. This tool becomes the primary tool for crafting for many students during their career at the House, though there are exceptions (such as the School of Explosives).
